Here’s some insight on who I am, what to expect from this blog, and where the name came from.
I’m a twenty something year old New Yorker who loves to travel and read incessantly. I love thrillers, suspense, coming of age, young adult, and philosophical fiction. I occasionally read a non-fiction (usually an autobiography) but it’s a harder sell for me. As with traveling, books are an escape for me so I treasure losing myself in a book and that’s something I can’t easily do with non-fiction.
The genesis of this blog was a conversation with a close friend, who convinced me to start jotting down my book recs in one place. Even if I don’t write in this blog, if I read some thing and it truly moves me, all of my friends down to strangers on the train will hear about it. So, I decided to write short descriptions and reviews on books to help my friends and anyone else interested find their next read. I’m also using this as a way to improve my writing — to consolidate my thoughts into short summaries that anyone on the go can digest.
Now, what’s up with the blog name? Where did it come from? I’ve lived in New York my entire life and Manhattan has always been my epicenter. Until getting the travel itch from studying abroad, I never thought about the beauty that lay beyond 125th street. After living abroad, I realized how infinitely small my world view was and so I wanted to start a travel blog on my adventures. But, let’s be honest, do we need another travel blog? Instagram is the epitome of the ultimate travel blog so I decided to dedicate this name to something also beautiful: reading.
